AlSiC composite material typically has four features: low coefficient of thermal expansion; high thermal conductivity; high specific stiffness; light weight. But, wait, what exactly is AlSiC?
Well, from CTE point of view, from machining point of view, AlSiC is just like ceramic.
From thermal conductivity point of view, AlSiC is similar to pure aluminum, much better than Al alloy.
The strength of AlSiC is much like cast iron. Drop a mouse pad sized AlSiC board from second floor to a concrete floor on the first floor, the AlSiC board would not break.
The density of AlSiC is similar to aluminum, one AlSiC part weighs almost same as same dimensioned aluminum part.
If more ductile material is needed, put ceramic fiber into AlSiC composite will make the material as strong as high strength steel while keep half weight of steel.
